Hi, I’m Emily!
I’m a self-confessed nerd living in a formerly derelict, 300-year-old cottage just outside of Manchester. I created Oh Deer in 2018, and I haven’t looked back since.
I studied Biological Sciences at the University of Warwick, from which I graduated with FIRST CLASS HONOURS (yep, still not over it!). I then went on to study my Master’s in Environmental Bioscience and graduated with a Distinction. If you want to make me smile, please don’t hesitate to ask me about my dissertation or thesis—but please be prepared to listen to me rambling about bumblebees for the rest of the day!
I have always been a keen photographer (despite having more enthusiasm than talent) and I adore writing (except when it comes to academic papers). Oh Deer allows me to combine these interests with my passion for everything the natural world has to offer. On this website, I post both factual and opinion-based blogs. If you’re more interested in photography, check out my instagram.
Nature is so important to me—a sentiment which I’m sure you share if you’ve gotten this far! In the face of climate change and ecological degradation, the future of our planet hangs in the balance. I want to be part of the movement to educate and inspire people to do their part for nature; that’s why started Oh Deer in the first place. I hope that you enjoy it, and perhaps even learn something new.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or feedback. Happy reading!
